Mercedes Hochmuth is a German-Argentine soprano and singer with a wide-ranging artistic versatility. She graduated in Classical Singing from the National University of the Arts (Argentina), complemented her training through an exchange at the Zurich University of the Arts (Switzerland), and refined her skills under renowned teachers such as Gustavo López-Manzitti, Laura Pisani, and Pablo Pollitzer, among others. Her solid technical foundation blends with a flexible artistic approach, allowing her to move naturally across genres including opera, tango, pop, rock, jazz, and musical theatre.
From an early age, she found her place on stage, beginning with theatre and musical comedy, which later converged with her formal vocal studies. Awarded scholarships from the Mozarteum Argentino and the DAAD, Mercedes participated in masterclasses and specialized programs in singing and acting, enriching both her artistic perspective and cultural formation.
In the classical repertoire, she has performed roles such as Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel), Bastienne (Bastien und Bastienne), Papagena / Knabe I (Die Zauberflöte), Amahl (Amahl and the Night Visitors), and Le feu/Le Rossignol (L'enfant et les sortilèges), among others. She was part of the world premiere of Dietegen (Spohr–Spoerri) at the Tonhalle Maag in Zurich and has appeared in both staged productions and chamber, symphonic, and choral concerts.
Her career also extends to other musical styles: in musical theatre, she starred in Hairspray and performed in A Chorus Line, Sister Act, and El sueño de Akim. In addition, she has appeared in concerts as a soloist and in band formations, performing pop and rock repertoire. Within tango—one of her current artistic focuses—she is co-founder and singer of the Quinteto Ocho Gambas, a project dedicated to traditional danceable tango. She is also co-founder, co-director, and singer of Brio Live Music, an ensemble that offers live music for events, providing a diverse repertoire adapted to each occasion.
As a voice-over and dubbing artist, she has participated in international projects, lending her voice to animated series, digital content, and children's music productions. Her studio work also includes recording covers and original music for clients around the world.
Mercedes speaks Spanish, German, and English fluently, enabling her to work across multicultural contexts and connect with diverse audiences. With a career in constant evolution and a deep commitment to the arts, Mercedes continues to captivate audiences with her voice, versatility, and passion for singing and music in all its forms.
